Walleye Fishing Lake Erie July 6, 2015

5/3/2017

We were told that they were catching Walleye out of Port Maitland, but my buddy went there July 5 and he got nothing.  Two other friends had been fishing off the mouth of the Niagara River and got 2 July 5.
So we tried fishing out of Crystal Beach near the border, in 40-45 FOW and we got lucky.
We were 5 for 7.  We got 3 nice walleye off in-line planar boards, about 120 ft out with fire-tiger stick baits, likely 15 ft deep.

We got 2 others on copper and yellow worm harness from down-riggers set at 35 ft deep in 40 FOW.
We also got 2 other good hits, one on a purple stick bait off planar board running about 15 ft deep.
So most of the walleye hits were off planar boards and apparently suspended higher up off the bottom.
I did not get anything off my usually trusty purple and black worm harness..... surprising.
Anyway we had a beautiful day on the water.

Winds were from the SW 2-7 km/hr and created a nice cool breeze on an otherwise hot day.
Breeze created some chop, scattering sunlight and possibly allowed walleye to strike higher
in the water column.

Great Walleye Fishing!
