Landfill Reclamation
Landfill reclamation requires experience and expertise in evaluating a given landfill and determining the volume of soil (if any) that can be recycled for future re-use onsite. A successful reclamation project requires an in-depth investigation of the materials present as well as detailed environmental evaluation of soil that was used as cover. Test-pitting and test-screening are essential tools used to characterize the materials present and determine: -total volume of waste present requiring removal and landfilling, -total volume of recoverable material that can be recycled and diverted from landfill and, -total volume of soil that can be re-used Advantages of Landfill Reclamation are included below: -reduction of waste removed off-site -reduction of soil removed off-site -re-use of soil reduces amount of clean, imported soil required for backfilling All of these advantages produce a significant overall cost savings over conventional dig and dump (excavation-disposal) methods. |
