I was watching Charlie Wray’s show aired on TV, March 18, 2017. Charlie was on the east coast of Canada on a fishing charter with Tony’s Tuna Charter in P.E.I. They were fishing for Bluefin Tuna with mackerel live bait.
In the half hour show they caught 3 beautiful Bluefins, estimated at 700, 800 and a whopping 900 pounds. However, the best thing about the show was the care and respect shown to these beautiful golliaths of the sea. After being caught, they carefully revived the fish by holding them a while under tow until they recovered from their long fight. After a time, the Bluefins were released and clearly shown wiggling their tails, indicating they were swimming under their own strength, so they were clearly recovered.
Bluefin Tuna are endangered around the world due to overfishing. Japan continually fishes for Bluefin Tuna with complete disregard for the endangered species. Bluefin Tuna is also being over-fished to extinction in the Mediterranean Sea. This blatant disregard for Bluefins around the world will lead to their extinction. Humans need to pay attention to this because this same disregard has lead to the plundering of the Atlantic Cod fishery in Eastern Canada.
In my opinion, Charlie Wray has the best fishing show on TV. He is extremely knowledgable and respectful of all fisheries. Thats why he chooses fishing charters that share his same values. It was a great show and great to see there are some fishermen in the world that are respectful of a great fish.
If I ever go deep-sea fishing, I would visit Tony’s Tuna Charter because he is providing a fish charter service that releases the tuna caught and shows the great and rare respect to Bluefin Tuna that they deserve.
